doesnt the verse of akon's song sound like the exact rhythm of the chorus of r. kelly's?
r. kelly: YouTube - R. Kelly-Ignition
akon: YouTube - Akon - "Don't Matter"
video comparing the similarities: YouTube - Akon = R. Kelly?

I can think of many songs where I loved the song, but not the singer, or the bass line. This is a perfect song for improving somehow (I tend remix it into a trance/hardhouse mix). One of the best examples of this is the song "Angel" by Shaggy. The lyrics are partly borrowed from "Angel of the Morning" done by Marleen Rush, who's voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard, and the song uses the bassline from "The Joker" by Steve Miller, whos lyrics suck. In the end, I like the Shaggy version (mind you, I am not fond of his style at all) because he blends the parts of two songs that good in a unique way.
What I'm trying to say is that music is always inspired by something else. The basslines of the two songs are very similar, and maybe Akon did copy R. Kelly. But the real question is if it is worthy of truely being called a creative work. The only person that can judge that is you.

As for "sampling" in rap/hip-hop, check this song out which mixes "samples" from both Biggie and Frank Sinatra, LOL! Robert Afnani Dot Com |
