I think the reason is that everything has pretty much been done in the scene, sans more homebrew development. Back in the day, I would check the site every day, hoping for a new version of eLoader. The day when I could just play Tetris through GTA on my 2.60 I was extremely happy. Just the thrill to see all of this simple stuff slowly grow to where it is not knowing whether it would eventually succeed was a fun experience On top of that, I would go through the forums and find fun things to talk about in the Off Topic section. Now homebrew is simple to get on every firmware, especially with pandora's battery available now. I guess you could say that the thrill of it is gone.
The only thing I look forward to now is new homebrew applications. |

Hopfully after buying the psp slim, there will be just as big of a thrill. |

The PSP Slim has a number of cool things like video output, slightly slimmer and quite a bit lighter, and a new firmware, but it doesn't actually fix any of the key issues with it, such as load times. Yes, it does have a better drive, but I still think 177 seconds (almost three minutes) for WWE to load is excessive, especially for a portable system.
However, the DS Lite actually fixed a few serious issues with the original DS, like providing a larger stylus, a filler cart for the GBA slot (which easily got dusty quite quicky), better design which was also smaller from every perspective, and brighter screens.
I'm not saying that the PSP Slim will fail, and I'm not trying to put anybody off buying one, especially if they like the added features, but the PSP itself was good enough, and had no real issues that needed correcting. It seems to me like Sony has never heard the phrase 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.
I'm not trying to turn this thread into a 'PSP Slim vs DS Lite' thread. I'd just like to make that clear. |

They only brought the load times down, but the fact is, the PSP uses a disc drive, which are always going to be slower than flash memory, or a hard drive. |
