Complaints of muscle soreness and injuries from playing the game are piling up.

So fast, there are Web sites out there showing injuries gamers have gotten -- a black eye, a bloody hand, a knot on the knee and arms in slings.

"Those type of injuries you wouldn't expect from indoor play with a video game," Dr. Bret Bruder said. "The popularity of it, the explosion of this has been unexpected and amazing."

Bruder, an emergency department doctor, said injuries are adding up as more people get the game.

Unlike previous game systems, the Wii often demands considerable physical motion to play effectively.

And the sheer popularity and fun of the game system doesn't help matters.

"You get caught up and you don't want to quit and take a break," Matt Vieth said

"Young children through middle-age people (are) being over exuberant, coming in after hours and hours with their arms, shoulders and joints aching," Bruder said.

Zach Martin had problems with his arms after boxing a few rounds on the Wii.

"It kind of stresses out sometimes," he said.

Bruder said a little common sense goes a long way.

"A little bit of stretching if you're going to be doing some of the more vigorous activities like the golf and tennis," he said. "Don't play for hours and hours on end. Try to spread it out. We know it's fun, it's addictive, but keep it to a limit."

i think we all knew it eventually would happen, especially the first few "accidents" (broken tvs, accidental contact, "the severed finger")
i mean it is physical activity, i can only play for an hour tops on a good day on some games.....

yes people should restrict how much time they spend playing to avoid problems like this

yeah, but MOST of the injuries could have been prevented by doing what the safety manual said.

For example, "Take a 10 to 15 minute break every hour, even if you don't think you need it." would prevent soreness, and
"Wear the wrist strap." would have prevented stuff like the black eye mentioned above.

SIDE NOTE: It took me forever to make this post lol. i started up the wii to find the website for the saftey precautions, and the next thing i know, its 30 minutes later and im playing crazy guitar solos on guitar hero.

You're right though. It's not Nitendo's fault. People wouldn't have this problems if they followed the safety precautions

its even got a little picture thing before you start your game to use the wrist strap. so no excuse for those n00bs (even thought i dont use it either. lol)

yeah, but i usually dont swing it around like a maniac, and im not gonna complain (unless its complaining about my stupidity) if i bust my tv or give myself a black eye
