I need help with geometry-ish problem

Quote:
An octagon has an area of 14.96 in squared, and sides 1.76 in long. Sketch the octagon and prove the sketch by showing dimension and area calculation.
Anyone have an idea?

P.S. I was given a piece of graph paper with a center point for the octagon on it.

i recall many moons ago.... you can calculate the area of any polygon 4 sides or more by bisecting triangles created by drawing radii from the center to the corners of the polygon, but the exact equation currently escapes my memory....

in theory you could divide 14.96 by 8 ( a regular (equilateral) octogon is eight isosceles triangles connected by a central point) and solve for the area of an isosceles triangle (two side the same) with the odd side measuring 1.76. the angle opposite the 1.76 side will measure 360 divided by 8 (45?)

is the octogon regular or irregular, because you could make any irregular octogon fit those criteria????
