we know that 3.0 will be out soon, and not too long after that 3.5 (or whatever) will appear, does that mean people shouldn't work on 3.0 because it will be outdated quickly?

I mean come on , the PS2 was hacked (Chipped) and that didn`t stop its ORIGINAL software being financial success .. Microsoft makes loads of money too and lets be honest , i don`t even think half of the users here have an original copy of XP or whatever you are using ... The Dreamcast fucked up , and why ? cause they did the same things that sony are doing now
