Version 2.5

Hello all,

I'm new here, and to the whole PSP thing. I recently got the white PSP version 2.5. I heard that you can downgrade it (other versions), but when I mentioned it to my friend, he said that he couldn't downgrade the version that I have as it's too new. I don't know whether there will be a downgrader for this new version.

Thanks a lot.

SK

Your friend is right. Anything above firmware 2.0 can not be downgraded. We don't know if there'll be a downgrader anytime soon, either.
Anywho, welcome to PSP3d.

In the meantime I suggest you stay on v2.5 and do not upgrade your PSP because when you upgrade its harder to downgrade because people are trying to find out ways to crack lower firmware versions. Also, the reason why sony has firmware updates is to prevent against hacking so their is more security so just wait and hope that a downgrader will come out.

One thing which I'm not sure about is that if I buy a new game from the shop or something (since there isn't a downgrader for the time being), will it also automatically upgrades it to the even more newer version? I heard that with new games, there's a high chance of that happening and you wouldn't be able to downgrade it in the future if the downgrader for v2.5 is created. Is that true?

Thanks,

SK

So... does anyone knows anything about this? Whether if a new game will automatically locks or update the PSP so that it can't be downgraded in the future. At the moment, I haven't bought any games yet as I fear that it'll happen, however I can't just do nothing with my PSP whilst waiting for the downgrader to be released, unless that is the only option.

Can anyone please advice.

Thanks,

SK

When you put the game in under the game menu a disc icon appears that you click on to play the game and another icon (Cant remember what it looks like) that is the firmware upgrade, this is where you choose to upgrade. I fairly sure there arent any games that will automatically upgrade your psp.

In order for an upgrade you have to have a particular battery level and have your psp plugged in, so unless that isn't the case, they can't implement a built in upgrade into the game. Also if they tried to do it via the web the wouldn't be able to do that either cause you need the wirleless to be activated.

I don't see it happening...yet.
