Australian Freakin Copyrite laws

Correct me if im wrong but i was reading a pc mag and heard that if you change the format of a music track from cd format to mp3 your breaching copy write laws. Dosent that mean its ileagle to put music on an mp3 player without leagley downloading it of the web?

Confused

P.S This is only in aus I think.

you are technically copying it into a different format, which is illegal, By 'law' your allowed 1 backup of your media. Which doesnt mean converting it into a different media, eg converting it to mp3 as a backup. You'd have to do a direct copy.

By law, video recorders aren't allowed. You're not meant to tape shows on tv

if at any time any "copy" in what ever medium you have managed to duplicate the original content ,you would have crossed the piracy line,

i am a muso myself and can understand fully what mp3's and other digital piracy has done to the marcket.

but i do believe in making backup copies for replacement...as cd's / demo disks get worn out ...

but ja, grey area.. u know in er gut when you messing with the law, if you wehre redistributing it for a profet and had 2000 mp3's u kno u been bad,

u bluetooth yer true tone ring tone to a budy... spose that piracy 2...

the digital world just seems to be anouther ugly monster ..

I heard lately that it's now against the law, or it will be against the law soon, to take a CD and burn it onto your computer and then put those tracks onto an mp3 player. so these days if you want to use an MP3 player you have to download direct from places like iTunes. it's just ridiculous

is it realy ridiclous tho?, (this is gonna end up in a flamming match)

but turn the tables if this was your income , and i only gave you 2 or 3 % of it because jo soap shared your worday with 10 of his friends.... bad synagy
but you get the picture...

alot of us muso's dont have big time recording contracts ...
and have to pay for a recording studio out of our own pockets / gig money

then pay the costs of cutting / distributing marketing our content,
only to have a bootleged copy out on some warez site b4 the shyt hits the shops shelves,
how much return will we get ?.

it gets to a point where true muso's wont release anything new unless sony bmg or some other big ass person foots the bill....

back to square 1 sonyy will try and protect thier investment with copy protection .. Fanjita will crack it and the only person who looses is the person who put the hours into it ...

but yet i STILL believe there is a grey are when it comes to making backups
if i payed for 1 copy i will do what ever is possible to always have my 1 copy ... even if it means storing it on mp3

and trust me , im not 1 to talk i rip crack hack the crap outa ne thing that mooves, well cept my mom

but if you look at the big picture u'll see it's not that ridiculous

,....

i hear ya zianna but i have a 20gb creative zen mp3 player. if i go out into town and buy a cd, i wanna listen to it on my mp3 player, but I cant because it's illegal to rip cd's to my computer, so i have to then buy the same cd from iTunes so i have two copies, one CD and one digital, thats just silly. i heard the new windows (windows vista) is coming with safe-guards that stop you from doing this. Shit vista, XP all the way man!
