And Heres how
Step\par 1:
First, download and extract one of the following to\par your C: drive. This contains the program that will turn your\par PC into a web server as well as all the custom files to make browsing\par on your PSP nice and easy. To see what they look like, just check out\par the screenshots above.
\par PSPortal v2.0\par - YourPSP Theme
\par Download\par (720 KB)
\par
\par PSPortal v2.0 - Gameplay\par Theme
\par \par Download\par (721 KB)
\par
\par PSPortal v2.0 - Media Manager\par Theme
\par Download\par (746 KB)
\par
Now, what you have here is the web server\par software hfs.exe which you simply run but first, we need to\par configure it to share your files.
Included is an index.htm.\par This has links on the page for Music, Photos and Movies so we need to\par create links in HFS to these folders on your PC.
Step 2:
So\par OK, go ahead and run HFS.exe. It should startup minimized. In\par your system tray on the right hand side you should see a yellow,\par black and white icon syaing HFS. Double click on this.
All\par you need to worry about is the box on the left that says Virtual\par File System. This lists all the files and directorys you will be\par able to access via your PSP. You will already see images,\par favicon.ico and index.htm in the list written in italic.\par This means they exist for the web server to use but you cant see\par them. Leave them as they are!. See\par screenshot
Step 3:
Right click on the\par \par Music folder and click on Edit Resource. Browse to and\par select where you keep your music on your PC and click OK. Do\par the same for the Photos and Videos\par folders.
Important!
What\par to do if you run HFS and just see the little house and no Photos,\par Movies and Music sections (you do not need to do this if you do see\par those folders!)
\par This means HFS\par has not loaded the custom template and portal I created. You need to\par then load these manually. To do this follow these steps:
Step:\par 1
\par \par Click Menu then Load\par File System, select c:\\hfs\\default.vfs
Step:\par 2
\par Click Menu > Other\par Options then click Edit HTML template. Click on Import\par \par and select PSP.tpl. Click OK
Using
Thats\par it, your PC is now setup as a web browser ready to serve the world.\par Ensure that HFS is still running. Were going to test first that it\par does work so open your browser on your PC and just goto\par
http://localhost. You\par should now see the main page of the PSPortal. Go ahead and click a\par link, each one should take you to a page which shows the contents of\par the folders we specified earlier. Clicking on the red logo at the top\par will take you back to the main page.
If that works you can now\par give it a go from your PSP.
Open up the browser on your PSP\par and goto enter a web address at the top. To connect to your PC you\par will need to know its IP address or name. If you dont know\par this just open up HFS and at the top you should see a bar that\par says Address. Whatever is entered in here type that into your\par PSP browser and make a note of it for later. You should be presented\par with the main page for PSPortal. Again, click away on the links.
All\par going well you should now be able to access all the Music, Photos and\par Videos on your PC \par \par
\par Security (optional)
\par At\par this moment your PC is a web server available for anyone to see\par (unless you have a firewall in which case see Firewalls below). What\par I have done is setup a username and password on my main page.
I\par have setup a demo user in HFS for you with the username of demo\par and password of psportal. You can view and add users by\par clicking on Menu at the top, Other Options and then\par \par Users.
From here add, remove, rename and change\par passwords for any additional users you want. If your happy with using\par the one I have already setup we shall continue. If not add some\par more.
To enable security on your site you can add it to\par individual folders or as I have done to the entire site. To add it to\par the entire site simply right click on the little house at\par the top and click on Restrict Access. Now choose who can\par have access to your site.
Now when you try to goto your\par PSPortal from your PC or PSP you will be asked for a username and\par password first. Just enter this to continue, if you dont enter\par anything you just wont be allowed to view anything.
\par Uploads (optional)
\par \par At\par this point you can only view the files on your PC, but you may be\par wanting to upload files from your PSP to your PC. Before you can do\par this you need to have a user setup. If you want to use the demo one I\par included just continue, otherwise setup a new user.
To enable\par uploading just right click the folder you want to allow uploading\par into. Click on upload and select the users\par you want to allow uploading for.
To upload files the person\par must first be logged in, if you enabled security on the entire site\par your already logged in when you open the main page. If not then they\par must click the Log in button in the top right before they can\par see the upload icon. Once they are logged in they can continue\par and click on this icon and select all the files on their PSP they\par want to upload.
\par \par
\par
Accessing via the\par internet
\par Its all well and good browsing your PC's\par files while at home but what about when your out and about.
\par
\par To\par do this you need to connect to your PC via the internet and this is\par where things can get a little tricky as you need a few things.
\par
\par First\par is to make sure any firewalls you have allow Port 80 through. See\par firewalls below for more on this.
\par
\par \par Second is the external IP\par address of your PC/Router. You can find this using HFS if you like.\par Click on Menu at the top, select IP address and Find\par external address. After a few moments a box will appear and tell\par you your PC's external IP. Make a note of\par this.
\par
\par Third is to setup port redirection on your Router\par so when you enter the external address of your PC you get put through\par to your PC. This varies from router to router so see your routers\par manual. Below is a rough guide on how to do this for a Linksys\par router, the steps for yours may be similar:
\par \par
\par Step 1:
\par To\par setup port forwarding on this router, you will need to know your\par computer's IP Address. We found this earlier using HFS (internal\par address, NOT THE EXTERNAL ONE!).
\par
\par Step 2:
\par Log in to\par the Router's Web-based Utility. (This is usually done by opening your\par web browser, entering 192.168.1.1 in the Address field, and pressing\par the Enter key).
\par
\par \par Step 3:
\par Enter your username in the\par login box. By default the username is blank, so just leave the\par Username box empty. Go ahead and enter the password in the password\par box. The pasword is admin by default. Click the OK button at the\par bottom of this screen.
\par
\par Step 4:
\par At the top middle of\par this menu it will say Applications and Gaming. Click those words.\par This should change the menu directly under those words. In this new\par menu, click Port Range Forwarding.
\par
\par Step 5:
\par \par On the\par left hand side enter HTTP as the name of the application you are\par forwarding. Specify the port range in the Start and End boxes. In\par both of the boxes type in 80. Select the protocol type as Both. In\par the IP Address box, enter the IP address you found in Step 1. Click\par the Enable check box on the right hand side. You should now see\par something that looks like this.\par Click Save Settings at the bottom of your screen to save your\par changes.
\par
\par At this point you are ready. With your PC on and HFS\par running you should be able to view your PSPortal from anywhere around\par the globe. Give it a go from your PSP now or get a mate to have a\par try. Sweeeet.
\par
\par
Dynamic DNS (optional)
\par At the moment when accessing via the internet you are having to enter\par your PC's external IP address. This is sometimes hard to remember and\par not very friendly to look at. It is recommended to setup a Dynamic DNS.\par This means you can then access your PSPortal via something a little\par more friendly for example
http://psp.servegame.com
\par
To setup a Dynamic DNS visit
http://www.no-ip.com\par \par and create an account. Follow the instructions on the site to setup a\par new Dynamic DNS that will point to your computers external IP address.
\par
Its quick and easy and best of all FREE!
\par
\par
\par
Firewalls
\par By\par default many firwalls including Windows XP Firewall, blackice\par defender and the one in your router may be blocking port 80 from coming in (you can go out on it and view web pages but when\par somone including your PSP trys to access your PC it will be told to\par naff off!). For this reason we need to open up your PC so people/you\par can connect to it.
\par
\par \par Below is how to change Windows XP firewall\par to allow this, for any other firewall you will need to real the\par manual or check out
http://www.portforward.com
\par
\par First,\par go to Network Connections in whatever ways you want to (one is\par opening it in Control Panel)
\par Then see which connection is\par Firewalled --> a little Padlock icon on the top right
\par \par After you\par have found it, right click it go to Properties
\par Go to Advanced
\par Then at the lower right Settings...
\par If\par you using Port 80 which is the Web Server (HTTP), just check\par the tick box of it (be warn that some ISP is blocking port 80, so it\par might not work on port 80)
\par \par If you are not using port 80 you have\par to Add... it yourself
\par Description of service: HFS
\par Name or IP address: "You computer name using by\par windows"
\par External/Internal Port number for this server: "Any Port you set your HFS to"
\par \par Click OK then it\par is done
\par
\par
\par
RSS, Live Music Streaming (optional)
\par If your PSP has firmware 2.60 or newer you will be able to stream music\par direct to your PSP from your PC. This means you don't have to download\par the music and saves space on your memory card. To do this you will need\par to create/edit the rss.xml\par \par file. A sample one is included with PSPortal v2.0. This sample will\par stream some music direct from Sony but if you edit it you can have it\par stream any MP3 from your PC.
\par
Heres how to create your own rss.xml file.
\par
Step 1:
\par Download and install FeedForAll from
http://www.feedforall.com/
\par
\par Step 2:
\par \par Run FeedForAll and you should be prompted to run the wizard, say yes, if not click on the Feed menu and select Wizard.
\par
\par Step 3:
\par At the introduction click Next, enter a title of your choice and click Next. Enter a description of your choice and click Next.
\par \par
\par Step 4:
\par In the Link box\par enter the external IP address of your PC that you found earlier or\par better still if you have a Dynamic DNS setup (see above) then enter\par this address. Click Next.
\par
Step 5:
\par \par On the Item Introduction screen click Next\par to add an item. Note: Each MP3 you want to stream will require its own\par item. Enter a title for the first item e.g the MP3 song name and click Next. Enter a description and click Next. In the Item Link box again enter the external IP address or Dynamic DNS of your PC and click Next.
\par \par
\par Step 6:
\par If you need to add more Items (mp3's) click Add Item and repeat Step 5 or click Finish when you are done.
\par
\par Step 7:
\par \par When prompted to save say Yes. Save the file as rss.xml into your HFS folder i.e C:\\HFS\\rss.xml
\par
Step 8:
\par You now need to edit each item to add the link to your MP3 file as an enclosure. In FeedForAll click on the Items tab to view all your items. Click on the first of your items and then click on the Optional tab.
\par \par
\par Step 9:
\par Where you see Enclosure click the Up/Down arrows on the right. In the URL\par box enter the full external web address of your MP3 file. If you dont\par know this open up Internet Explorer and goto the external web address\par of your PC by entering the external IP or Dynamic DNS. Browse until you\par find the MP3 file you want but DO NOT CLICK ON IT! Instead Right click on it with the right mouse button and select Copy Shortcut. Now go back to FeedForAll and Right click in the enclosure URL box and select Paste. The address of your first MP3 file should now be displayed. In the Audio type box enter audio/mp3
\par \par
\par Step 10:
\par Repeat Step 9 for each other item (mp3) you wish to stream. \par If you need to add another item (mp3) click the item menu at the top and select New. Then just repeat Step 5 and 9.
\par \par
\par Step 11:
\par Click on Feed and select Save.
\par
Step 12: (optional)
\par If you want to add a custom image to the feed click on the Image tab and enter the URL for the image. The image must be hosted on the web and cannot be on your PC. I recommend uploading the image to
http://www.imageshack.us , they are a free image hosting company and very easy to use.
\par \par
\par Step 13:
\par Access PSPortal from your PSP's browser and click on the \par RSS icon. When prompted if you want to add the RSS feed say Yes.
\par
\par Step 14:
\par \par Select RSS Channel under Network in the home menu, and then press the X button. \par Your new Channel is displayed.\par Select the channel, and then press the X button. The system connects to\par the Internet and automatically begins to check for content. The list of\par content items available for playback is displayed. Select the content\par that you want to play, and then press the X button. The content begins\par streaming playback.
\par
\par
Start Automatically (optional)
\par At\par the moment you have to manually run HFS when you want to access your\par PSPortal.
\par \par
\par You can have HFS startup automatically when the PC\par starts. To do this on Windows XP download and install this
\par
\par HFS\par Auto Start for Windows XP
\par Download\par (28 KB)
\par
\par or:
\par \par
\par Step 1:
\par Open the HFS\par folder on your C: drive.
\par
\par Step 2:
\par Right click on HFS.EXE and click on Copy
\par \par
\par Step 3:
\par Click\par on Start > All Programs and then Right click on Startup
\par \par
\par Step 4:
\par Click on Open all users or if thats not available Open
\par
\par Step 5:
\par \par Click Edit at the top and click Paste Shortcut
\par
\par
\par Changing\par Port (optional)
\par For the more technical you may want to use a\par port other than port 80. To change this first stop HFS by clicking\par the word ON in the top left. Now you can change the port from\par the default of 80 to any other value you like.
\par \par
\par After changing\par this dont forget to reconfigure your firewall and port forwarding on\par the router.

FAQ's
\par
How can I use this with my computer off?
\par
You cant really. What you are doing with this\par is accessing all of your PC's files, if your computer is off you cant\par really access it. Just like if its turned off you cant use it the same\par applies, your just accessing it when not sitting in front of it.
\par
\par
This is great! Can I donate to fund future developments?
