The bottom line?, i'm leaving, i quit psix, quit all psp forums, psix will continue to be worked on (if qubitz wants to), however i'm fucking gone.

Let's take a look back on the past year or so, and figure out just why in the fuck i'm going off on one right here and right now shall we?

Thursday December 10th 2004, Akihabara, Japan.
Stood in one of the larger games stores talking to one of the staff about the psp and it's specifications, he happened to let me know that i could buy one right there if i was willing to slip him a few yen for his troubles..
And so, i missed the release day rush by an entire 12 hours and walked rather cautiously back to my apartment, where i unboxed, charged then played ridge racers for the rest of the night, taking a minute now and then to witness the news reports being made occasionally on the people still lining up.

It got to around 1am and there were reports being made on the queues, so i thought what the hell, grabbed a box of instant ramen and drinking chocolate from the kitchen and headed down to one of the larger stores in Akihabara, Mei a good friend of mine happened to be there so while she held the bag of goodies i popped in next door (small restaurant), and asked them if they could boil up some water for us, then spent the next 5 hours handing out hot chocolate and noodles, thankfully the restaurant provided them all with plastic forks.
Was a weird evening listening to all the stories people had about wanting the psp, and how long they had waited, where they'd come from.

There were a few things that were strange, such as the occasional white van pulling up with mafia-types sending countless random people and homeless in, to purchase psp's and bring them to the van packed down an alley near the store, i quote one in saying that they were paying 1000 yen to anyone willing to wait in line and get them another psp (since the store had a strict 1-psp-per-customer policy).

Thursday March 24th 2005, Everywhere, America.
As a lot of you will remember, this was the fated released date of the PSP in the US.
Now people will also do well to note that the US PSP came with version 1.50 Firmware, it was around this time that the Japanese 1.50 update was released, and also when the first wave of 'messing' with the psp to boot unsigned code began, it is during this time, and for the next 4 or 5 months which were truly the best days the psp had, there were many fakers, many noobs, and many wannabe's, but not including them, the scene was alive with homebrew and developments such as the first gameboy emulator for the psp.
When did all this change?

UMD Dumping was rumored to have occurred, and sadly it had, hundreds of people switched their attentions towards the umd's content, and eventually the first rather crude loaders began to surface, and rather famously WAB worked on it's own loader, it was during this time that the uk had just received their psp's and the scene was filling faster then you could imagine.
Then it happened, at first a video was released of hot shots golf being loaded from an ISO, then within two weeks Fastloader was released into the wild.
While many will argue to the contrary, it is at this point that the psp scene started on it's slippery downhill slide, while a large majority of psp developers continued to work on their projects, it was clear the scene was going to hell, forums flooded with "how do i load __ iso", "why doesn't ___ work" etc.

Wab, Yoshi, Psix, who else?
Well if you're a SXT follower you more than probably took in, and believed the tripe fed to you by SXT, or more specifically Mathieulh, This was their "official" response to a joke i made about them when asked why i didn't release the source to psix, i simply replied "I don't want to wake up at some point next week to see Yoshi and SXT releasing "SXT-OS beta" and claiming "omg its all our code we just used fluffs idea!", Well, when rather than ignore it, they decided "Let's make up a heap of lies about Fluff!", and so the list'o'lies was born, it's still on the front page despite SXT's habit of having 20 posts to flame someone, or dig for fame to every 1 or 2 release posts.

You'll also note that i only ever "made comments" on said post when it was quoted in forum threads to be used as a flame (Self defense 101 guys).
Now, months before all this drama, myself and qubitz were working on a shell named PspOS (Often referred to as WinPSP), We worked on this project for a while, had icons working, draggable and renamable, however the project suffered from lack of any real knowledge of the psp, so launching was a distant dream and the shell itself was still using direct frame buffer to render data to the screen.
The project was eventually scrapped and we moved on to other things, however a month of so after i went back to pspos and started to play with the code, changing the interface and doing my best with my poor knowledge of coding, to convert the shell from direct frame buffer to gu, i took a really crappy hack and slash approach which led to psix being very unreliable and wasteful, the videos released a long time ago were in fact real, but the sad truth was that the video was in 3 files because psix at the time required 3 separate eboots to do the various tasks.

Eventually qubitz began to help with psix and we started from scratch, making a reliable and powerful interface engine and working from there.
The problem was, including the time i spent working slowly on psix, and because of the 2 or 3 complete rebuilds which took place by the time myself and qubitz had got it to a usable state, it was already 7 or 8 months into the project, and public opinion of psix was low, many of the flames directed towards me were based on either vaporware or not releasing betas.

It was around the time that psix began to really start acting as a shell that we decided that for the time spent on the project we should get something back from it, at first we considered donations but as any psp developer can tell you, barely anyone donates to a program they can freely download.

Now it was around 6 weeks before the ill fated public release of psix, and we decided that we would use "Lite" and "Pro", using Lite for the public build and Pro for the internal beta builds, and instead of asking for donations, we would create a forum and a live-compile server for paying members, the idea was never to sell psix, but to sell memberships to the forums and access to the live-compile server, psix was never intended to be a commercial product, and never would be (to everyone saying "if you want to sell psp software become a licensed developer, think about it, why spend thousands on the resources to do that when we already know, sony will not agree to launching unsigned files).

Anyway psix pro forums was supposed to be a fun place where everyone could suggest ideas, design wallpapers, generally have their say and enjoy the whole experience, with the occasional competition to liven things up, however as more and more people purchased memberships, the originally small headcount of users that were lovely to deal with, grew larger, and more impatient.

Add to this the never ending stress and complains from people who didn't want to pay for pro memberships, and unhappy with the public versions, as well as various people who felt they should step in and mention various "legal" factors, things were starting to become a pain in the ass.
Despite the obvious hatred towards us from 70% ish of the psp scene, we continued, released an update to beta members and pursued even more additions to the shell, after much consideration i talked with qubitz and we eventually decided that it was time to destroy the wall between Lite and Pro, and destroy the naming entirely, and so, the recent update as "Public" and "Beta" was made, including a total rebuild of the site (those with keen eyes will have noticed the removal of the PDR project, more on that shortly).

Honestly i was excited and believed that this update would show that we weren't trying to sell psix, and that we were doing some nice work with psix, however, dreams and reality are more often than not, completely different, while some people appreciated the major update to the public build which included audio playlists, a larger file limit, fully working audio visualization generated from the audio (which no other homebrew app has done so far), with image and file management tabs enabled, and the beginnings of the network tab, psix was starting to shape up nicely!, but did people like it?, no.

Much of the scene were too busy falling over themselves to flame psix for being "pay-homebrew" to even bother trying it out, or realizing that its coming along nicely, then ps2dev decided to stick their oar in and make a statement regarding the inclusion of their name in the PDR project page, with some rather blatant "why didn't we get any money?" overtones, because we used their tools to create psix, now see when i was designing the web page for psix and was working on the pdr page, i thought, hey we use their tools, they're the reason why homebrews where it's at, i'll give them a mention", however it seems this display of respect was taken as "using their name" to sell psix, this stress was strike two in why i would quit.
Now honestly Oopo?, Fuck you, i find being judged for charging for a membership to access services, from guys who are the birthplace of iso loaders, more than amusing, and if we wanted to name drop, i'd have mentioned the interfaced was designed by the same person that designed the interface for a well known, and well used audio player, and to attack us because we used your tools and "used your name to sell psix"...? Lunacy.
Go and ask anyone who actually paid for psix, if they did so because we mentioned ps2dev on the PDR page, i think you'll find that absolutely none of them did, so pull your heads out of your egotistical arses and realize that.

Pdr? what the fuck is a pdr?
PDR was my side project, to spend my share of psix memberships on, after taking around 28 requests is set about ordering the stuff from amazon and another company, eventually it worked out that i'd need over $120 of my own cash to pay for the various delivery locations, but that was fine, sent them all out and sat back feeling like i'd made even the slightest difference.

Brrrt, wrong again!, when it came to ps2dev's questioning of the PDR project, not a single one of the 28 people that had used to project (and used the entire %35 of my share of psix pro memberships), came forward to back me up, this was strike one for reasons why i've quit, now ignoring that i continued on, adamant that psix would continue, then one night, without my usual bottle of vodka at my side, i signed in to PSPU forums, and peered over at the inbox, 17 unread... ugh.. 11 flames, 4 complaints at why public had bugs, and 2 threats from "people who work for sony", yeah, right.
And this my dear readers, was strike three.
Fuck it!

Now a note to all the other shell makers out there, Blue keep it up you rock and so does your shell, Ahman, you've got the best app there is for the psp, keep up the amazing work and do us dev's proud, Elz and co, though i think the code inside psp-os sucks like a thirsty hooker, good work on it, at least you got the features in!, Slasher and co, Nice work on the shell, it's just a shame that your manners fucking suck.
