Ps3

While the amount of storage a single layered Blu-ray disc will provide over the current DVD format is staggering, prepare to pick up your jaw off the floor. It appears in an attempt to jostle the competition, TDK has revealed plans of fabricating a monster 8 layer Blu-ray disc for commercial use.

While some will question the feasibility of such a huge disc, it is by far a huge technological milestone. The sky would very well become the limit with this disc. The days of having the hassle of using multiple DVDs back-up and restore whole hard drives would be eliminated and simplified to one disc, as the act of reformatting becomes a much more common practice to combat the effects of viruses, root kits, and spyware. The inclusion of TDK's new Durabris© coating, which seems to be nearly indestructible, should do a good job adressesing the concerns of the durability of such a high risk item.

Inside the PS3
Written by Administrator
Sunday, 16 April 2006
PS3Portal.com has released alot of new information about the PS3.

That being said, we will first start with some background information concerning Sony's PlayStation 3 competition that is known as the Xbox 360.

One of the first things that one notices when they utilize the Xbox 360 is that it has an operating system running constantly in the background, even while playing games. This is a new feature as far as dedicated Game Console hardware is concerned.

The operating system running in the background enables,

- Custom Music in all games
- Simplifying development of Online games
- Seamless updating of games when the Xbox360 is connected to the Internet
- Voice Chat across all games, even outside of the games own UI
- Notifications and messaging to be sent between users regardless of the games they are playing

As one would deduce, this does not come without its own costs in terms of power, including,

- 32mb of the 512mb of available GDDR3 RAM
- 3% CPU time on Core 1 and Core 2 (nothing is reserved on Core 0)

Everything that one wants to do involving software on a game console, specifically while the user is playing games, comes at a cost. In the case of the Xbox 360, this cost is approximately 2% of total CPU time and 6.25% of the Xbox 360's total available RAM. Balancing these out, one could argue that MS has removed a total of 4% of the Xbox 360's total available system power in order to provide these features and more which were not mentioned. They also left room, CPU and RAM wise, for future features. In other words, they are not using all of the CPU time and RAM that they have reserved to date.

PS2 Price Cut Before PS3 Launch?
Written by Administrator
Sunday, 16 April 2006
Sony Corp. is expected to cut the price of the Playstation 2 entertainment system to $129, Reuters reported on Thursday.
The PS2 currently retails for $149.

Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian on Wednesday indicated that Sony is planning the PS2 price cut before the end of the month.

The price reduction would be several months prior to the Nov. debut of the Playstation 3.

The PS3 was initially slated for a spring 2006 launch, however several components have yet to be finalized for production.

Sony plans to ship 1M PS3 units per month after its initial release.

Video game console manufacturers frequently cut prices prior to the introduction of new hardware. Sony last cut the price of the PS2 to $149 from $179 in June 2004.

PS3 To Cost $500 (or more?)
Written by Administrator
Saturday, 14 January 2006
A CNN MONEY article projected that Sony's PS3 might cost $500.
The article's author, Chris Morris, said he spoke with "several developers" who made estimates ranging from $300 to upwards of $700, but the prevailing wind seems to be blowing in the direction of $500.

Of course, Sony itself hasn't made any announcements regarding their actual plan. Microsoft should be so lucky!

PS3 Pricing Information
Written by Administrator
Sunday, 06 November 2005
The PlayStation 3 is expected to cost between $300 and $400, according to a new data point buried deep in an article in the Hollywood Reporter about Sony’s overall business strategy. In addition to the PS3 price hint, there are some other interesting factoids in the article:

Sony will be releasing new portable media player devices that “will focus primarily on video and transferring user-selected content from digital video recorders and other devices using Sony Memory Sticks”

The Sony PlayStation business is worth approximately $20 billion out of Sony Entertainments’s entire $37 billion valuation. (The entire company rakes in $65 billion per year.)

The PS3 is a Blu-ray trojan horse. According to an anonymous ”high-level studio executive,” the PS3 will be a “subsidized Blu-ray play that will sell 20 million units. The first HD player will be on the market for $1,000. PS3 could be at $300 or $400. Sony will be selling them at a loss the first six months to a year just to get Blu-ray players out in the market. So studios realize they need to have their content on it.”

”PS3 will be bundled with a selection of preloaded films, TV programs and games”

PS3 Will Not Have XBOX Live Style Online Play
Written by Administrator
Sunday, 06 November 2005
Sony has announced that PlayStation 3's online function won't feature a central service similar to Xbox Live. Instead it will have an 'open architecture' that allows games publishers to decide how they want gamers to get online with their games.

With Xbox Live, publishers have to work with Microsoft, which is something that prevented EA's Xbox games going online until 2004. It seems a similar service to Xbox Live does not appeal to Sony as its approach focuses on giving flexibility and freedom to individual publishers.

However, it hasn't worked especially well for PlayStation 2's online performance, which is well behind Xbox Live in popularity.

The PlayStation 3 was originally intended to act as a home network router, according to Sony Computer Entertainment boss Ken Kutaragi, who has revealed that the functionality has been dropped because it would have been too expensive.

No HDD?
Written by Administrator
Saturday, 09 July 2005
According to the latest issue of Famitsu, the PlayStation 3 will not ship with a hard disc drive (HDD). This is concurrent with statements made by Sony Computer Entertainment head Ken Kutaragi early last month. This is likely an attempt to keep the cost of the system down (Merrill Lynch Japan recently priced the PS3 at $399 and estimated the manufacturing cost to be nearly $500). The system will ship with a 2.5-inch hard drive slot, with a HDD sold separately.

Kutaragi has recently suggested that the first PS3 HDD units will be 80 GB in size. He has stated that he hopes to include an operating system like Linux on the HDD. It is unknown if there will eventually be version of the PS3 sold bundled with the HDD, similar to what Sony has done with the PS2 in the past.

Sony To Lose Money
Written by Administrator
Wednesday, 29 June 2005
According to securities firm Merrill Lynch, Sony is set to lose around $100 per PlayStation 3 hardware set it produces, even if the machine comes with a $400 asking price on day one.

Analysts believe that production costs look set to top around $500, with key components (Cell Processor, RSX and BD ROM drive) averaging at a shade over $100 each to make. Merrill Lynch claims that SCE is likely to sell the PS3 at $399 in the US and $410 in Japan, figures that project a loss of around $1.2 billion in the first year the machine is on sale.

PS3 Graphic Boost
Written by Administrator
Thursday, 16 June 2005
Sony Computer Entertainment president, Ken Kutaragi revealed early this week that the PlayStation 3 backward compatibility is done by using a combination of both PS3 hardware and software capabilities. Hardware assistance is required because of a few snags in achieving thorough backward compatibility through PS3 software solutions alone.

Sony is really beefing up the PlayStation 3 graphics by using Nvidia's RSX by having 300 millions of transistors which is supposed to be the highest number for a graphic processor until now. Nvidia's RSX will be clocked at 550MHz and is designed on 90 nm marchitecture.

ATI's R520 will have even more but we suspect that the Xbox 360 will have much less than that, giving PS3 the highest boost among all the consoles.

Nvidia's RSX will be manufactured in Sony's Nagasaki Fab2 facility as well as at OTSS. The OTSS is a joint fab venture between Sony and Toshiba. Both companies are closely in bed because of its "Cell" marchitecture.

Ps3 3rd Quarter 2006?
Written by Administrator
Sunday, 26 June 2005
PlayStation 3 fans might not want to hear this news, but remember, this is only an "estimation". Third-party video game publisher Ubisoft is estimating a launch in the third-quarter 2006.

Ubisoft are among the first to know specifics related to hardware production schedules in order to coordinate development time for future games. Ubisoft's estimation will have the PS3 launching close to one year after Microsoft's Xbox 360.

Microsoft Xbox 360 is scheduled to release in November 2005.

A launch one year after Xbox 360 would secure Microsoft game sales even before the PlayStation 3 hits the store shelves. Such a gamble is unlikely for Sony, which is determined to continue the next-generation console domination.

Only time will tell.

Retail PS3 More Powerful?
Written by Administrator
Sunday, 26 June 2005
Back at Sony's PlayStation 3 presentation at E3, the company and its publishers showed off a number of demos and presentations, some of which were running in real time on a developer's prototype machine. Naturally, one of the questions that was raised by the audience was whether the actual console--which hits stores in spring 2006--would be able to run its games with as much graphical integrity. The answer is yes, according to Web site ITmedia, which reports that the finalized PS3 will be exceedingly more powerful than its current developer's machine.

June 9, 2005 - In an interview with Jiji Press, Sony Computer Entertainment's Ken Kutaragi disclosed that PS3 development kits have been shipped out in large numbers to developers in Europe, America and Asia. Kutaragi didn't give a specific number of development kits in circulation, referring to the number as being over 100 but under 200.

That's apparently not enough for the hungry game development community. Kutaragi also reveals that there's a shortage of kits, and Sony cannot keep up with demand

PS3 HDD To Run Linux
Written by Administrator
Friday, 10 June 2005
SONY COMPUTER Entertainment boss Ken Kutaragi has suggested the upcoming Playstation 3 will come equipped with a hard disk. And the hard disk may come with Linux pre-installed.
Kutaragi is miffed that the likes of Nintendo and Microsoft won't call their consoles computers. Nintendo, he complains to Japanese site Impress PC Watch, "keeps telling the world their consoles are 'toys'," while Microsoft keeps calling the Xbox a "game machine".

"We're positioning the PS3 as a supercomputer", he says, "But people won't recognize it as a computer unless we call it a computer, so we're going to run an OS on it. In fact, the Cell can run multiple OSes. In order to run the OSes, we need a hard disk. So in order to declare that the PS3 is a computer, I think we'll have [the hard disk] preinstalled with Linux as a bonus.

PS3 Final Fantasy
Written by Administrator
Wednesday, 08 June 2005
During E3 last month, Square Enix president Youichi Wata showed a technical demonstration of how Final Fantasy VII would look if it were remade for the PlayStation 3. He then made a disclaimer that a new version of the game isn't actually being developed for the console but assured the audience at the presentation that another Final Fantasy game will be coming to the PlayStation 3.

PS3 Demos Within Weeks?
Written by Administrator
Monday, 06 June 2005
Perhaps the most impressive showing at this year’s Electronics Entertainment Expo, held last month in Los Angeles, were the PlayStation 3 technical demonstrations offered by Sony, though perhaps not for the right reasons.

Microsoft and Nintendo were both livid at what they hinted was a disingenuous showing by the consumer electronics giant, with even Mr Nice Guy himself, Shigeru Miyamoto, saying, “Most of what you're seeing are not even the first projections of games. They're just shiny computer graphics. They're things anyone using a computer can do.”

People have been asking me for ps3 info so there you go i got that all for PS3Info.com so there you go hope that answers questions

yea sorry people had been asking me about the ps3 and i didnt no anything so i looked up some stuff and tyed it here is some more info about it

Sony Computer Entertainment's chief technology officer Masayuki Chatani has cast doubt on the company's plans to include a hard disk unit in the PlayStation 3's launch package next spring.

Speaking in the pages of Japanese magazine Famitsu, Chatani said that a strategy had "yet to be decided", but added that he felt people would want to upgrade to higher capacity drives - the implication being that Sony would shy away from making the hard disk unit an obligatory part of the PlayStation 3 launch package.

thats all i found enjoy
