For the sum up of everything, yes you need to validate Vista. You can get all of that from the Microsoft website for free. You can run "pirated" XP and Vista together, just put Vista on a new partition. Personally I think Vista is fun to mess with and learn about, but that is just my opinion. Although I do like Ubuntu Linux.
