Vista Display Problems

Okay, well I managed to get Ultimate installed on our laptop, except I have some major problems with it.

First off, the laptop's main monitor has a great mess of scanlines everywhere. I see multiple everything because of this, and only about half of the screen is being used. Changing the resolution only makes it worse, so I have to keep it on the lowest resoluton. When I hook an external monitor to the laptop, everything on that looks fine, but I still have the glitchy display on the laptop.

My video card is an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000, and I have the official drivers installed. I am considering a problem may be the fact that I have Vista Ultimate running on the laptop with 512 Megs of RAM. (Minimum core requirement.) I may try switching to Home Basic, but I'm not sure if it will make any difference, I need an experts advice on this.

My second, not as crucial problem is when I close the lid to the laptop, and then lift it back up, the backlight won't turn back on! I can see the desktop, but there's just no light.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx.

If you want the best results, i'd suggest contacting Microsoft or posting this on one of their forums. The second problem sounds like a hardware problem and so, im not sure you'll have much luck finding a solution that doesnt involve having someone fix it

Good luck! *..*

HOW DARE YOU USE OUR SMILIE! (check sig).

I'm gonna prolly just move to Home Basic, because this little machine just can't handle Ultimate...

Do you guys think that changing Vista versions will change anything?

It sounds like your computer is having trouble with the OS, i'd switch it back to XP.

*..* - this smilie? I quite like it, not as good as the original of course, but it has its merits.

WOOT!!! I got it working! Turns out something was wrong with the ATI driver, so disabling it did the trick! I'm so happy!

The GUI looks awesome, and it runs like a charm, even though its running on minimum requirements!

Thanks for your help Onyx! w00t!
