| | | | Holy Shi*!!!!!!!!! I was looking at Google News in the technology section and I came across this...
Apparently IBM is working on this new "frozen chip" that can operate at 500 GHz (no typo!!). To keep the chip from overheating, they "cryogenically freeze the circuit".
For somebody that is reading this and doesn't know how fast that is, a standard home PC CPU runs anywhere between 1-3 GHz. The chip they have developed runs about 250x faster than that. Wow.

Actually, it's a 2.6 core duo, but can safely be run at 4.1. That is, if you use the water cooling system suggested.  |

Points: 52.31 Donate | | | Yeah...I saw this story on digg...I think they get the temp down to maybe negative 417 degress farienhieght (I dont really remember so dont get all up in here telling me im wrong). But yeah, over heating is one of the biggist restrictions on making a CPU....most CPU can eaisly be overclocked but there not because of the heat and energy consuption(hmmm trying to think of an example...so hard to do...hmmm this is a PSP site....hmmm....maybe the PSP...)Why do you think that the PSP is set to 222 and not its capable 333 |
