Go for a Nvidia 6600, or a little lower (I got one for $100 U.S., and I"m not sure of the exact convertion but that should be close). So far, I have not had any problems except that my friend tried to plug a AGP 8X only into a 4X only slot. It works, but sometimes there are major texture redering problems. But he's getting a new motherboard soon, so he can deal with it.

'ideally' you would re-install windows etc
But you should just be able to un-install your old drivers, shut down, take old AGP card out, put new AGP card in, start windows up, install drivers and be away
