DIVX 2-pass encoding

yeah.. can anyone tell me how to use this? If I choose DIVX and I choose one as 1-pass and other nth-pass, what bitrate do I have to use? dO i have to use big bitrate for 2nd-pass or 1st pass, do they have to equal? do they both add-up as one big bitrate? thanks
